Communicating With Your Teacher

This article outlines various tips for communicating with your teacher.

Ways to Communicate

Communicating with your teacher is very important. It helps you understand lesson details and clarifying questions. Remember, your teacher is there to help you succeed, so don't be afraid to ask questions and talk to them often.

Email

If you have your teacher's email address, you can email them directly with questions. When you email your teacher, try to remember to include some of the following:

  • Name
  • Course
  • Topic/Lesson/Subtopic with which you need support
  • As many details as possible so your teacher can support your learning in the most efficient manner.  This may include a picture, video, links, and more.

Course Communication

Within your course, you may have the option to message your teacher.  This will vary per course and per Learning Management System setup.  Please use the links below to learn more about the options in your Learning Management System.

Buzz

Buzz has a Messages feature that allows students and teachers to communicate within the system.

Students will be able to send a message from anywhere in their Buzz course. These messages are delivered to the teacher's Inbox with a direct link to the activity or folder, so teachers can easily review the content students have questions or comments about.

Students can also reply back to grading and that communication will also go to the teacher's inbox.

TIP: Under the Settings in Buzz, you can choose to set alerts for when you receive a message.

Creating a New Message

You can create a New message to your teacher anywhere in your course. Click the paper airplane icon

If you are in the Inbox already, you click the same icon to begin a new message.

In the New message window, you will complete the To field if it is not already auto-generated.  Next, you will create a Subject line

Then, use the text editor to craft your message to your teacher in the text box.

When you are done, you click the Send button.

Inbox Features

Within the Inbox, you can adjust your view using the Inbox dropdown.

When looking at your messages, you will be able to identify the unread messages, read messages, and the message you have selected

Each message can be archived, stared, or have the read status adjusted.

Within the Inbox, you can use the filter icon in the toolbar to filter to a specific class. All Courses is the default view.

Replying to a Message

When you open a message, you can reply using the Reply button that populates in the message screen to the right.

Next, you can use the text editor feature to create your message in the given text box.

Click Send to finish your reply.

IMPORTANT: Students are not able to change or remove their messages after posting.
