FocalPoint: User Roles and Permissions

This article clarifies user roles and permissions options in the Learning Tree learning management system.

IMPORTANT: Some roles may have layered permissions.

User Roles and Permissions Definitions

Role	Icon (If applicable)	Definition
Course Designer		User who has permission to design courses. Also, the area where district-level users can customize and publish courses.
District Admin (District User)		User who has all district user permissions and can create district sites and users in a tenant.
Educator (Teacher or Instructor)		User who has access to communities they create or are added to by an admin.
Is Scorer		User who can blind grade student assessments in AssessCloud. This permission should only be given to users whose district has purchased AssessCloud through FocalPoint.
Learner (Student)		User who is accessing communities to learn.
LT Learner		List of all users to which an educator has access. Found in Performance (Main Menu).
Members		All users permitted to access the community.
Observer		User who can view the community but cannot edit or grade.
Owner (Co-Owner)		User who can add, edit, and grade in the community.
Parent		User who has an over-the-shoulder view of their student’s communities. This role is created by the parent.
School Admin		User who has all school user permissions and can create other school users.
Technical Admin		User who creates customized communities and provisions user roles.

This chart names the role and defines its access and functionality within the Learning Tree Main Menu.

NOTE: Although District Admins, School Admins, and Teachers do not have access to Backpack in the Main Menu, they still can create and award student credentials.

Other Permissions By Role

In Learning Tree, certain roles have other permissions associated to them. They are as follows:

District Admins have access to all District User permissions and can also provision other District Users.
Community Owners can add any user as a Co-Owner or Observer.
Co-Owners have the same community access and permissions as the Owner.
Observers are only able to view the community without being able to edit or grade.
The Course Designer permission can be given to any non-student account and gives them the ability to design courses.
Parents have read-only access to their student's Learning Tree account.
