Learning Tree: Activity Types

This resource defines the activity type options district admins may choose from for their FocalPoint tenant. These options will be available for teachers to add to their courses to customize learning in Learning Tree.

There are a variety of activity types teachers can use to enhance their course content. These include:

Default Activity Types

The following activity type options are recommended by Lincoln Learning Solutions (LLS) to optimize customized learning and improve the student experience.

Assessment

An assessment is an online assessment comprised of various question types, such as:

  • Choice
  • EBSR
  • Extended Text
  • Fill in the blank
  • Match
  • Order

Teachers can add a test from a bank and add an optional description/instructions.

Assessments can be listed as graded or ungraded. If graded, the educator will list the max score and weightage category.

IMPORTANT: Weights are determined at the tenant/district level.

Teachers have the option to toggle on the following options:

Show Answers - the student will see the correct answer and feedback after attempting the question and before the assessment is submitted.

Show Test Result to Student – the student can view test analytics after submitting. Analytics include:

  • Overall score
  • Time spent
  • Score analytics
  • Score by subject
  • And more...

IMPORTANT: Show Test Result to Student is only available for auto-graded questions.

NOTE: LLS Assess Its can be added using this option.

Assignment

An assignment requires the student to upload authentic work.

Teachers can create or toggle an activity to be an assignment.

They can also add a description/instructions and an optional rubric.

Assignments can be listed as graded or ungraded. If graded, the teacher will list the max score and weightage category.

Content

Content is a non-gradable activity where the learning takes place.

Teachers can create and add a custom activity such as an article review.

They can add a description/instructions. Making the activity an assignment will require students to submit authentic work.

TIP: Teachers can turn on the Capture Read Status. If turned on, the student will mark the activity as read when completed.

Discussion

Discussion boards are for students to post to and interact with community members in an open forum.

Teachers can create discussion boards and make them graded or ungraded. If graded, the teacher will list the max score and weightage category.

Resources

Resources are open education resources (OER) found in the resource bank.

Teachers can add OERs and add a description/instructions.

If the teacher makes the activity an assignment, an optional rubric can be added. Making the activity an assignment will require students to submit authentic work. Resources can be listed as graded or ungraded. If graded, the teacher will list the max score and weightage category.

TIP: Teachers can turn on the Capture Read Status. If turned on, the student will mark the assignment as read when completed.

IMPORTANT: Lincoln Learning Objects are not part of OER.

Video

A video is an activity type designed specifically for video content.

Teachers can add a video via a file upload or a video URL. They can also add a description/instructions.

If the teacher makes the activity an assignment, an optional rubric can be added. Making the activity an assignment will require students to submit authentic work. Videos can be listed as graded or ungraded. If graded, the teacher will list the max score and weightage category.

TIP: Teachers can turn on the Capture Viewed Status. If turned on, the student will mark the assignment as viewed when completed.

Optional Activity Types

WARNING: The optional activity types are only available to clients with their own tenant.

E-Publication

E-Publication is an activity type designed specifically for URL content.

Teachers can add an E-Publication URL, Audio URL, or PDF URL. They can also add a description/instructions.

If the teacher makes the activity an assignment, an optional rubric can be added. Making the activity an assignment will require students to submit authentic work. E-publications can be listed as graded or ungraded. If graded, the teacher will list the max score and weightage category.

TIP: Teachers can turn on the Capture Read Status. If turned on, the student will mark the assignment as read when completed.

SLO Activity

An SLO is an activity type that allows a teacher to add a variety of activities and/or media into a single activity.

Teachers can add a video, content, images, and an assessment. They can also add a description/instructions.
