Lincoln Learning Academic Honor Code
This resource provides information about the Lincoln Learning Academic Honor Code for students utilizing Lincoln Learning teacher-facilitated courses.
Academic Honor Code Overview
Academic integrity is an essential part of learning. The Academic Honor Code Process outlined below reinforces the importance of honest, original work while promoting accountability and providing students with the opportunity to learn, grow, and demonstrate integrity in future coursework.

Violation Categories
Cheating/Plagiarism
Cheating concerns how academic work is completed. It occurs when assistance is used that is not permitted by the assignment guidelines, such as copying answers, using unauthorized tools, resources, or websites, or having another person complete the work.
Plagiarism concerns ownership of the work. It occurs when someone else's words or ideas are used without proper acknowledgment. This includes copying material from a website or other source, or paraphrasing information, without citing the original source.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use
Improper AI use in online learning occurs when a student uses AI in a way that misrepresents their own knowledge, effort, or understanding, or when it violates course policies. In these cases, AI is being used to do work that the student is expected to do themselves.
Insubordination
Insubordination happens when a student chooses not to follow expectations or communicates in a disrespectful manner. This may include refusing to complete required revisions, using rude or dismissive language in messages, or responding negatively to feedback in a way that disrupts productive communication.

Grades K – 2 Process
The K-2 process does not use the Restorative Reflection. It involves working with students and parents. Please review the steps below. If you have questions, reach out directly to your manager.
Warning
The assessment is graded without a point deduction, and the warning is documented.
An email is sent to the student, parent/guardian, and primary mentor.
The teacher will provide resources and guidance to help students complete assessments honestly and in accordance with the Lincoln Learning Academic Honor Code.
Further Violations
The assessment will be given zero points, and the violation will be documented. An email will be sent to the student, parent/guardian, and primary mentor. A retry will be allowed following a parent/guardian meeting.

Grades 3 – 12 Process
Students first receive a warning, with a chance to earn back up to 100%. A first formal violation happens only after that warning and still allows resubmission for up to 100% following a satisfactory Restorative Reflection. Any additional violations limit resubmission to up to 70%, requiring an additional Restorative Reflection submission.
Warning
A warning is issued and documented the first time a student violates the policy, and the student has an opportunity to resubmit for up to 100%.
The teacher will provide resources and guidance to help the student complete assessments honestly and in accordance with the Lincoln Learning Academic Honor Code.
Violation 1
A formal violation occurs when the student violates the policy after already receiving a warning. The violation is documented, and the teacher sends an email to the student, parent/guardian and primary mentor. The student can resubmit for up to 100% after satisfactory completion of a Restorative Reflection by the course end date.
Violation 2+
Additional formal violations occur when the student violates the policy after already receiving their first violation. The violation is documented, and the teacher sends an email to the student, parent/guardian, and primary mentor. The student can resubmit for up to 70% after satisfactory completion of a Restorative Reflection by the course end date.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Process
Students are encouraged to use artificial intelligence appropriately in Lincoln Learning courses. AI should not replace authentic work. Lincoln Learning Teacher Facilitators will evaluate student work for authenticity and use specific criteria to aid in identifying unauthorized use of AI in student work.
IMPORTANT: A minimum of three indicators are required for any warning or violation in all courses with the exception of Art courses. Art has a minimum of two indicators required.
All Subjects AI Indicators:
- The submission demonstrates a higher proficiency in language and writing skills compared to the student's prior work or communications
- Student activity shows lessons have not been opened or adequate time has not been spent in lessons, yet there is a detailed response to the question
- AI detector shows a 90% or greater chance of being written by AI
- Excessive use of AI typical words and/or phrases
- Excessive use of lists, bullet points, or AI typical sequential structure
- Submission contains depth and detail beyond what is expected for grade level and explicitly covered in the course
- Generic explanations without details
- Characteristics such as italicization, font, background coloration, or the duplication of text or equations are indicative of responses generated by AI
- Special characters, symbols, placeholders and/or coding language are atypical of typed student input
- Google Doc edit history reflects large copy‑and‑paste activity and completion times that are not consistent with normal student writing behavior
- Submission mirrors AI‑generated answers to the prompt, including identical or highly similar phrasing and ideas
- Presence of AI watermark
- Handwriting appears unusually uniform, mechanically consistent, or different from the student’s previous work
Art Specific AI Indicators:
Noticeable distortions or impossible visual details commonly produced by AI image generators, such as warped anatomy, inconsistent perspective, or nonsensical text
- Image appears to be too perfect or advanced for a student to produce
- Image or artwork appears to be digitally created
- Submission contains a single image with multiple completed works that were assigned as separate deliverables
- Areas of the artwork exhibit irregular pixelation
World Language Specific AI Indicators:
- Recording does not match other work submitted by the student and/or sounds native, automatic, or generated
- Submission includes advanced grammar concepts and vocabulary that have not been covered in the course or are not level-appropriate
IMPORTANT: This policy is followed for all districts using Lincoln Learning Solutions' Teacher Facilitators, except for those who require their own academic integrity policy enforcement within their district.
