Term and Icon Glossary

This article provides a term and icon glossary for the Pulse student information system.

As a user of Pulse, you will come across unique terms and icons throughout the student information system (SIS). View the tables below to easily view either the term or icon and its cooresponding meaning or function.

Definition

class

derivative copy (i.e., section) of a course into which teachers and students are enrolled

class record

selected from the Courses data grid; information includes Product, Alignment, Course Type, and more for a class as well as enrolled teachers and students

client

business partner within a client district and/or school that utilizes Lincoln Learning Solutions proprietary systems, products, and resources

course

derivative copy of a Master Course; can serve as a client master

dashboard

software tool used to aid navigation and information management; provides an organized place to access and display data from multiple sources

enterprise 

resource 

planning (ERP)

integrated management of common business processes (e.g., HR, finance, sales) via software; tools within an ERP share a common process and data model

Explorer

tab in Pulse in which users, aided by search and filter engines, can navigate to locate users, courses, and enrollments

forced 

progression

learning management system (LMS) setting available on a master course, course, and class that links each item within the course to the next item in sequence, requiring the student to access components, items, and learning objects contained within the course in order

guardian

adult responsible for the care and keeping of a student and who serves as the student’s primary contact; types include parents and stepparents, foster parents, and legal guardians (as assigned and recognized by a court of law)

master 

course

course that encompasses Lincoln Learning Solutions’ design and/or curriculum from which all other courses are derived and to which no client changes can occur

mentor

adult associated to a student who is tasked with providing support, guidance, and advisement; within Lincoln Learning Solutions, includes: school administrator, student learning advocate, student liaison, guidance counselor, teacher, and guardian

role

the function within Pulse assumed by the user; within Lincoln Learning systems, includes: Mentor, Teacher, Administrator, Client Success Specialist, Client Teacher, Client Administrator

sign in

credentials (i.e., username and password) entered by user to gain access to Pulse

single sign-on (SSO)

the vehicle through which a user can access a network of applications and systems via a singular set of credentials (i.e., username and password)

user record

selected from the Users data grid, information includes Personal Information, Contact Information, and Client Information, as well as a view into enrollments and possible student-mentor associations

user type

class of user within an application or system; within Lincoln Learning Solutions, includes administrators, students, teachers, and mentors

Icon Glossary

Term Icon Definition

add

add a data item within a record (e.g., email, phone number)

bulk update

bulk update User, Course, or Enrollment details

change password

change a system password

clear all filters/filter column

clear all filters that are applied in the Explorer table; filter items within a column

column chooser

select columns to display and hide on the Explorer table

delete

soft delete a user, course, or enrollment from the Explorer table

discard

discard changes when “inline” editing (any line being edited) is done within a table

download

download a document or file

drop-down

populate a drop-down menu or list of options

edit

edit or update a file or record

export

export all selected data from a data grid in Excel format

full screen

expand the screen to allow for a full view

impersonate

impersonate a user

notification

Notification Center; when an action is completed in the system, a notification displays

restore default table settings

restore the data grid to its default settings

sort column

sort a column within a data grid in ascending or descending order
