FAQ

Q: How often are there assessments in the Integrated EK course?

A: The course includes various assessments that are meant to measure the growth and progress of the individual student. They are not worth a traditional grade. These assessments include Teacher-Graded Assess Its, Mastery Assessments, and Checkpoints. Teacher-Graded assessments will occur approximately once per day or every other day.

Q: What are the Checkpoints in the Integrated EK course?

A: There are three Checkpoints in the Integrated course: A Beginning-of-the-Year Checkpoint at Lesson 1, a Midyear Checkpoint at Lesson 90, and an End-of-Year Checkpoint at Lesson 180. These Checkpoints provide preliminary data, growth measurement, and conclusive data to show how a student is or is not progressing throughout the academic year. An adult is meant to take these, as well as any other auto-graded assessment, since they are administered through the learning management system.

Q: How do the Checkpoints differ from the Mastery Assessments?

A: While the Checkpoints and Mastery Assessments have similar functionality, they do assess slightly different content. Checkpoints are tools to determine prior knowledge, to gauge progress mid-year, and then to assess cumulative knowledge and growth. Mastery Assessments are tools to assess students’ mastery over a smaller number of content subtopics. These act more like unit exams or topic-based tests.

Q: What is the projected screen time for a student in Integrated EK?

A: The amount of screen time for the student is dependent upon what the adult would prefer for the child. The material was created so the student could sit with an adult and do everything on the screen (minus the worksheets and the completion of the hands-on activities). However, screen time limits were taken into consideration throughout the process of creation, and all of the lessons could be completed with only a limited amount of time in front of a screen.

Q: What is the difference between the Wellness EK curriculum as part of Integrated EK versus the Physical Education EK course?

A: The Wellness EK content as part of Integrated EK is focused on fine motor and gross motor skill development. Included in these lessons are basic principles surrounding the health and hygiene of the student. Physical Education EK was created from unpacking the SHAPE Kindergarten standards as there are no physical education standards for early learning. Physical Education EK includes more physical activities such as games, stretches, and dance moves. It is more along the lines of a traditional gym course with health components integrated into its content.
